This series is inspired by my former advisor at the University of Kansas, Margaret Pearce. I borrowed Margaret's techniques, including: an experiential color palette, experience frames, and voice to create narrative. The viewer is carried through the story and each frame by the individual, not the cartographer. I used Natural Earth for my base data and a Human Rights Watch Report for the stories. I compiled the base data in QGIS and stylized the stories in Adobe Illustrator.
These maps are part of larger project: Human trafficking in Sudan and Egypt: Mapping traumatic experience through multiple lenses. See my AAG abstract for more about this project here.
