This is a project for an advanced cartographic design course at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The goal was to create a compelling visual story as a longform infographic. My visual story has two storylines: the flight of Syrian refugees throughout the region and Western media's coverage of the crisis. I argue that media attention has overemphasized the impact of refugees in Europe neglecting the impact on Syria's immediate neighbors.
I used Natural Earth for my base data and UNHCR for refugee data. I compiled the data in ArcMap and stylized the infographic in Adobe Illustrator.
