Process

Process can be thought of as a series of subjective decisions and actions (or inaction). Mapping process can include anything from the people involved, data decisions, and design tweaks to map critiques, editing, and sometimes even, having to start over. Some decisions are drastic and some are barely noticeable. Process is iterative and difficult, rarely linear, and doesn't happen in a vacuum. All of our design decisions are influenced by our personal backgrounds, experience, and society.

To me, process is the most interesting part of mapping and as designers and cartographers, it is our responsibility to be tranparent about the twists, turns, and decisions that impact our map design. This page provides a taste of my own process that I will continue to update and expand.
